Once our patients decide to pursue a labiaplasty, one of the most asked questions during consult is, “Will it be painful?” Dr. Taghechian knows that the anticipation of pain during and after labiaplasty is what causes most of the anxiety for her patients. As such, she goes above and beyond to ensure that her patients are comfortable and relaxed throughout their procedure and recovery at home.
Where We Perform the Procedure
Dr. T performs her labiaplasties at Aayla’s Surgery Center. Upon arrival at the facility, patients are given oral relaxation and pain medication to remain calm and relaxed during the procedure. A small amount of local anesthetic will be injected into the labia, and with that, patients don’t feel any pain at all from the surgery itself. This is often an excellent time to take a nice, well-deserved nap, and most patients do.
The anesthetic lasts for several hours, allowing the patient to get home comfortably in the car.
Of course, any surgical procedure comes with some discomfort, and it is no different for a labiaplasty. During recovery, Dr. Taghechian asks her patients to have ice, Tylenol, and Ibuprofen available at home. These should be purchased before the procedure for comfort and convenience.
Ice can be applied to the surgical area for or 10-20 minutes at a time, but always use a towel to avoid the direct application of cold to the sensitive skin. Use over-the-counter medication like Tylenol and Advil as directed in your procedural instructions. Don’t try to be a hero and fight through the pain.
