The neck often gets forgotten in our day-to-day skin care rituals. We cleanse, moisturize, and protect the face from the sun, and we often stop our skincare routine at the jawline. Then one day, we notice that the skin below it looks thinner, looser, or more crepey than the skin above it.
Neck skin is different from facial skin. It is generally thinner, has fewer oil glands, and is exposed to years of movement and sun damage. Weight changes, genetics, and gradual collagen loss can also contribute to changes in texture and firmness.
Morpheus8 uses microneedles to deliver fractional radiofrequency energy beneath the surface of the skin. This creates controlled heat at certain depths, promoting tissue coagulation, contraction, and remodeling.
For the right patient, Morpheus8 may improve mild neck laxity and skin texture without incisions. It does not, however, remove excess skin, eliminate a significant amount of fat, or reproduce the result of a surgical neck lift.
The Neck Is Delicate
The neck’s delicate nature is exactly why it shouldn’t be treated like the cheeks, forehead, or abdomen. Skin thickness, as well as the structures underneath, vary significantly in different parts of the neck. That’s why an experienced practitioner is key to selecting the right treatment depth and energy, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach from the jawline to the collarbone.
You may also be concerned about discomfort or recovery. Numbing medication is generally used before treatment, but the procedure may still feel hot or uncomfortable in certain areas. Redness, swelling, and tenderness afterward are expected. Remember, ultimately, this is a medical procedure that comes with certain risks, which are often mitigated by an experienced practitioner.
Benefits of Morpheus8 for the Neck
Depending on the characteristics of your neck and treatment plan, Morpheus8 may help:
- Smooth rough or crepey skin texture.
- Soften the appearance of fine neck lines.
- Improve mild skin laxity.
- Create a firmer appearance beneath the jawline.
- Improve the transition between the lower face and neck.
- Address skin quality without adding volume.
- Produce gradual improvement without surgical incisions.
Because Morpheus8 works through healing and remodeling, results are not immediate. Changes may develop progressively over several weeks or months. Some patients may benefit from a series of treatments, while others may need a different or combined approach, such as facial BOTOX or neck BOTOX.
Who Is an Ideal Patient?
You may be a candidate if you:
- Have moderate changes in neck texture.
- Are bothered by crepey skin or mild laxity.
- Want a non-surgical treatment with gradual results.
- Have realistic expectations about what treatment can achieve.
- Are willing to follow aftercare and sun-protection instructions.
- Understand that significant hanging skin or fullness beneath the chin may require another treatment.
Morpheus8 addresses skin and underlying tissue. It does not specifically relax vertical platysma bands. If active muscle bands are your primary concern, neck BOTOX may be more appropriate. Some patients have both muscle-related bands and skin laxity and may benefit from a multi-treatment plan.
The procedure may not be appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding or for patients with active skin infections, impaired healing, uncontrolled diabetes, immune suppression, certain bleeding disorders, a tendency to keloid scarring, or recent isotretinoin treatment.
Risks and Recovery
Common temporary effects include redness, swelling, warmth, tenderness, tightness, dryness, bruising, pinpoint bleeding, peeling, or crusting. The neck may remain sensitive while the skin barrier recovers.
Less common risks include infection, prolonged redness, pigment changes, cold-sore reactivation, or an undesirable cosmetic result. Serious complications are possible but rare.
